Dress Making Classes

learn how to make a basic top, trousers or skirt

Introduces you to the essential skills needed to create your own garments from scratch. You'll begin by understanding patterns, fabric selection, and how to use a sewing machine confidently.

(This dress making course requires some experience of hand and machine sewing as covered in our Beginner Classes

WEEK 1 & 2

1. Body measurements, using a tape measure for accuracy. Note down for next stage. 2. Using paper pattern, adjust measurements where needed for perfect fit. 3. Lay paper pattern pieces on fabric correctly: bearing in mind right side of the fabric, warp and weft. Pin paper pattern neatly onto fabric.

WEEK 3 & 4

4. Using dress making scissors, cut around paper pattern and fabric. 5. Overlock the necessary edges for neat presentation. 6. Prepare to machine stitch pieces together including zip.

WEEK 5 & 6

7. Important to iron seams during the sewing stages. 8. Stitch button hole(s) 9. Hand sew button(s) 10. Iron garment for final finish.
